Running a Minecraft survival multiplayer server for your followers can be a great way to engage your viewers and reward those who subscribe. But setting up connections to your server to manage your whitelisted users can be a lot of time and effort – time you could be spending streaming. Let Stream Hydra do the work for you by allowing your subscribers to connect their accounts to your community and auto-whitelist those who subscribe to your Twitch channel. You could even customise your applet to allow Patreon members access too! Let’s get started.
Setting Up Your Account #
Firstly if you haven’t already, create an account with Stream Hydra, it’s free forever.
Once you’re in, head over to the Modules page and make sure you have enabled Twitch, Minecraft and Community before proceeding. These modules are required in order to automate your sub server. If you haven’t setup your Community yet, take a look at the documentation here for getting started. You’ll need your followers to share their Twitch and Minecraft information with you for them to be added to your Minecraft server.
After your community is ready to go, head over to the Minecraft Servers tab on the left hand menu and add your server. If you are unsure how to do this, check out the documentation for the Minecraft module here. After your server is setup and ready to go, we can create the applet needed to automate the whitelisting.
Creating the Applet #
You can choose to create the applet from scratch, or to save time you can clone a default applet we made in the Applet Library tab of the left hand menu. Find the Minecraft Sub Server template and click Clone Applet. You’ll be taken to the config page where you can select your Minecraft server from the drop-down, and choose whether you want to auto ban users from your Minecraft server if they get banned from your Twitch server, don’t worry, they’ll be auto-unbanned if they are unbanned from Twitch.
That should be all you need to do to get your Minecraft server automated! Now when your users connect their Twitch and Minecraft accounts to your community, they’ll be whitelisted on your server while they are a subscriber to your Twitch channel.
Advanced #
If you want to take a look under the hood of this applet and see what is going on, select Open Editor from the top right of the config page to see what’s going on.
Here you’ll see nodes split up into sections. Each section has a label explaining it’s use but the general flow is as follows:
- If a user subscribes to your Twitch channel, and they have already connected their accounts to your Stream Hydra Community, then whitelist them on your server.
- If a user unsubscribes from your Twitch channel, and they have connected their accounts to your Stream Hydra Community, then kick and un-whitelist them from your server.
- If a user leaves your Stream Hydra community, or they revoke access to their Twitch or Minecraft details, we can no longer verify that they are subscribed and so they will be kicked and un-whitelisted from your server.
- Optionally, if you have selected to auto-ban users across platforms from the config, then if a user is banned on Twitch, they will be banned from your community, and therefore your Minecraft server. If they are unbanned from Twitch, then they will be unbanned from your community but they’ll need to connect their account again to regain a whitelist on your server.
That’s it! Feel free to edit the applet to your liking and add more features to your sub server automation. If you have any questions please feel to free to contact us here via any method.
